Summer Reading Packets

In the report cards, I placed a gift packet to the students. They should have received their King County Library Card that was issued to them along with the application that I helped them fill out for their card. This application has their PIN on it. Parents will need to go to the library to verify that the address is correct within the next three months. Students can check out up to 99 books at the same visit. You can also check out DVDs, CDs, magazines, and more! In the mean time, I have taught the students how to access the FREE databases to help keep them reading at home with their new library card.

Please note: make sure to look inside your big report card envelope for your card. I hear they like to hide in the bottom of the envelope!

Within this gift packet, the students should have found all of the reading incentive programs for which I included. Here they are if you need more for any siblings in the household.

The students earn two prizes for reading and a chance to win an iPad!

At Barnes&Noble, the students can earn a free book.

The same thing at Half Priced Books.

Finally, the students can log their reading minutes for the above three programs on the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge in order to be a part of breaking a record for the Guinness Book of World Records!

The same minutes can be applied to all four programs. I have taught the students how to access each of these sites and how to use them. I hope this helps keep your child reading over the summer. Why? Look for the next blog entry to help inspire you to keep your child reading.

Ready? Set. READ!
